HELP OSRA Europe (HELP OSRA ETHIOPIA ASBL) is a non-profit association established in Belgium on October 1, 2003, with the mission to support the Oromo Self-Reliance Association (OSRA) in Ethiopia. Initiated by World Solidarity (MOC) and inspired by early visits to OSRA’s work in rural Oromia, the organization aims to empower local communities through sustainable development, self-management, entrepreneurship, solidarity projects, natural resource conservation, disaster relief, and the preservation of Oromo language and culture. Governed by an elected Board of Directors, HELP OSRA Europe welcomes members committed to improving the social and economic conditions of the Oromo people, with an annual contribution currently set at €40.
At OSRA, our mission is strengthened by the Ethiopian Government—nationally, regionally, and locally—through land, resources, and active collaboration that help turn ideas into lasting change. Together, we’ve built clean water facilities in schools and communities, ending long walks for unsafe water, reducing illness, and giving women time to start small businesses. These projects have brought clean water closer to homes, improved health, and restored valuable time for education and livelihoods. In partnership with local education offices, we’ve added latrine blocks, drilled deep and shallow wells in school compounds, and delivered menstrual hygiene training through girls’ clubs. These initiatives have improved attendance—especially for girls—while giving them dignity, confidence, and a better chance at a brighter future. With the backing of the Oromia Bureau of Women and Social Affairs, we’ve also launched skills training for women entrepreneurs, providing financial literacy and business management support. These programs empower women to grow sustainable livelihoods, contribute to the economy, and strengthen their communities for generations to come.
